Crime and security incidents in Colombia

Security and legal incidents have been reported across various regions in Colombia. In Medellín, a violent attempted robbery involving a large cash withdrawal led to a confrontation with agents from the Fiscalía General de la Nación’s CTI, resulting in the deaths of two suspected criminals. Subsequent law enforcement activity includes joint operations against criminal groups, such as the arrest of ‘Grafiti’ from ‘La Terraza’ and a raid in Medellín’s Belén sector targeting ‘Los Chivos,’ which resulted in the seizure of 32 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.

In Bogotá, police arrested three people in Ciudad Bolívar following reports of gunfire, discovering approximately six kilograms of marijuana. Recent operations have also expanded to include arrests for extortion in Cundinamarca and the recovery of weapons and narcotics in Boyacá and La Guajira.

Other notable incidents include a prison escape in El Bagre, Antioquia, where three detainees allegedly cut through metal bars to flee; one was recaptured and another arrested for suspected collaboration, while two remain at large. In El Banco, Magdalena, a man suspected of theft was rescued by authorities after becoming trapped in a second-story window. Legal developments include a 12-month prison sentence in Cali for a former official from the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare for sexual harassment. Additionally, authorities in Yarumal are investigating a suspected mass food poisoning following a municipal event that required medical attention for twelve people.
