Colombia reports multiple gun killings in Cauca and Huila regions

Two young men, Kevin Pulgarín Ruíz and Sebastián Quintana, were found shot dead on a rural road near Cascajal in the municipality of Santander de Quilichao, Cauca, on the night of 3 June. Preliminary investigations point to members of illegal armed groups operating in the area, including the Jaime Martínez and Dagoberto Ramos fronts of the Western Bloc, as possible perpetrators.

In the capital of Huila, Neiva, a series of three shootings occurred within two days. On 5 June, 31‑year‑old Juan Felipe Segura was killed during a dispute in a residential area, followed later that night by the fatal shooting of Yohn Ardila. The following day, 17‑year‑old Karol Julián Andrade was shot multiple times while eating lunch in the Primero de Mayo neighbourhood. Authorities are conducting investigations to determine motives and identify suspects. The recent spate of homicides raises concern over rising violence in the regions.

Both incidents are being investigated by local police and the national military, with calls for further action to address the presence of armed groups and prevent further loss of life.
