Colombia resumes energy cooperation with Ecuador as Bogotá faces scheduled power cuts

Colombia's Minister of Mines and Energy Edwin Palma announced that Colombia will gradually resume energy cooperation with Ecuador, aiming to boost regional energy security ahead of the expected El Niño phenomenon. The move aligns with President Gustavo Petro's plan for broader Latin American energy integration, including future links with Venezuela and Panama.

The government is also investing about 35 000 billion pesos to expand gas distribution networks in the Boyacá municipalities of Moniquirá and Santana, targeting near‑universal coverage of rural households. The projects intend to replace firewood with clean gas, improving health conditions for women and other residents in historically underserved areas.

Separately, Enel Colombia scheduled maintenance‑related power outages for Friday, 5 June 2026 across several Bogotá districts (Barrios Unidos, Ciudad Bolívar, Fontibón, Santa Fe, Suba, Tunjuelito, Usaquén) and nearby towns of Soacha, Cajicá and Zipaquirá. Outages will run from early morning until late evening, with specific neighborhoods listed, and customers were advised to disconnect appliances, safeguard food, and allow technician access.
