Colombia secures up to $9 billion CAF financing for energy transition
The Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) announced a financing package of up to $9 billion for Colombia covering the 2026‑2030 period. The resources are earmarked for strategic projects in energy, infrastructure, productivity and territorial development, with the aim of strengthening the country’s electricity system and expanding reliable power access.
The plan targets diversification of Colombia’s historically hydro‑dependent generation mix by supporting solar, wind, storage and grid‑modernisation projects. It also seeks to improve energy security, boost generation capacity, and reduce the urban‑rural electricity gap, aligning with Colombia’s climate commitments and broader economic development goals.
