Colombia reports 3,300 tons of cocaine seized under Petro administration

Colombia’s defence minister announced that 3,300 tons of cocaine were seized during the outgoing Petro government, a volume equal to the combined total of the three previous administrations. The report also noted a 60 % international interdiction rate, a reduction of roughly 9,000 hectares of coca cultivation in the last eight months, and 711 extraditions, mainly to the United States.

Other large busts in the region include a 2.5‑tonne cocaine haul intercepted by the Colombian National Police in the Valle del Cauca corridor, a 2,500‑kg cocaine shipment seized on a natural‑gas cylinder convoy in the same valley, a 388.5‑kg cocaine load seized from a Bolivian‑registered tanker in Argentina’s Castellanos department, and a 190‑kg cocaine seizure by Salta police in Argentina. Costa Rica’s security forces stopped a Guatemalan national carrying 202 kg of cocaine in Guanacaste. In Chile, police seized more than 540 kg of cannabis hidden in a truck bound for Calama and another 546 kg in San Pedro de Atacama. Bolivia’s FELCN confiscated 51 kg of cocaine from a minib‑bus on the La Paz‑Desaguadero route. Ecuadorian authorities seized about 950 kg of cocaine hidden in banana boxes in Valencia. Mexican police conducted raids that resulted in three arrests and the seizure of meth‑type substances in Querétaro. These coordinated operations across several Latin‑American nations underscore a continued crackdown on drug trafficking networks.
