Colombia seizes $6.65 bn worth of contraband in Buenaventura

The National Police of Colombia, led by Director General William Rincón Zambrano and operating through the Fiscal and Customs Police Management Directorate (POLFA), conducted a joint operation with the tax authority DIAN and the Prosecutor's Office at the port of Buenaventura. The raid resulted in the seizure of more than 286,000 units of illegal merchandise—including technology accessories, leather goods, clothing, auto parts and bicycles—contained in a single container. The goods, lacking the required import documentation, were valued at roughly 6.650 billion Colombian pesos and handed over to DIAN for disposal. Major César Augusto Álzate González said the operation protects the national economy, prevents tax evasion and weakens criminal smuggling networks. Authorities urged citizens to report any irregularities through the anti‑contraband hotline and email address.
