Colombia Supreme Court investigates Iván Cepeda over campaign financing

The Special Instruction Chamber of Colombia's Supreme Court of Justice has opened a preliminary inquiry into Senator and former presidential candidate Iván Cepeda. The investigation aims to determine if there were irregularities in the financing of the Pacto Histórico internal consultation held on October 26, 2025.

In that primary election, Cepeda secured the highest vote count, defeating Carolina Corcho and Daniel Quintero to become the party's candidate for the 2026 presidential elections. Magistrate Francisco Farfán has ordered the collection of evidence and statements to clarify the circumstances regarding the resources used during the process.

This judicial inquiry follows a separate administrative review by the National Electoral Council (CNE), which previously concluded that there were no elements to establish that Cepeda had violated financing regulations. The Supreme Court's current action is focused on determining whether the reported facts carry criminal relevance, though the opening of this inquiry does not yet imply a decision of criminal responsibility.
