Water supply challenges affect multiple regions in Latin America

Various regions across Latin America are experiencing water supply challenges due to environmental factors and infrastructure needs. In Medellín, Colombia, EPM has extended water rationing for a third consecutive week in the northeastern and central sectors. This decision follows insufficient rainfall and low water savings in the Piedras Blancas reservoir, driven by the El Niño phenomenon.

In Bogotá, Colombia, the Empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado (EAAB) has scheduled temporary service interruptions in the Suba district for maintenance and network renewal. Similarly, in Ipiales, Colombia, long-standing issues involving aging infrastructure and water source vulnerability continue to affect the region.

In Chile, Aguas Andinas reported emergency water cuts in the Quinta Normal commune of Santiago due to a landslide. Meanwhile, in Arequipa, Peru, Sedapar announced scheduled service interruptions for reservoir cleaning and disinfection. In Argentina, municipal authorities are conducting maintenance on water networks and drainage systems to prepare for increased summer consumption.

Authorities in several areas are urging citizens to practice responsible water use and ensure they have adequate domestic storage tanks to mitigate the impact of these interruptions.
