Cundinamarca weather emergencies cause deaths and property damage

Severe weather, including intense rainfall and high-speed winds, has caused widespread emergencies across the Cundinamarca department in Colombia. In Soacha, heavy rains led to significant flooding in several neighborhoods and along the Autopista Sur, resulting in one fatality and two injuries. Local authorities noted that debris and improper waste disposal in drainage channels have exacerbated the flooding.

In Funza, a powerful windstorm damaged approximately 156 homes, primarily affecting roofs in neighborhoods such as Samarkanda and Serrezuelita. The storm also caused fallen trees, downed power lines, and electrical outages. The Cundinamarca Special Administrative Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UAEGRD) is coordinating with municipal governments to provide humanitarian aid and repair materials.

Other municipalities, including Cota and Lenguazaque, also reported flooding and structural damage to homes. The Ideam reported that these events were characterized by high-intensity precipitation and were accompanied by hail and electrical discharges. Authorities remain on alert as meteorological patterns continue to impact the region.
