Colombia weather: IDEAM forecasts increased rainfall and monitors fire zones
The Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (IDEAM) has issued weather forecasts for Colombia, noting an increase in rainfall across several regions. Significant precipitation is expected in the Pacific and Andean regions, with strong rainfall concentrated in the center-west and northwest sectors.
In the department of Boyacá, localized rains are predicted between September 23 and 25, particularly in the western and eastern sectors. While these rains may temporarily help reduce the spread of vegetation fires in certain areas, IDEAM warns that dry conditions will persist in the most affected fire zones. Specific municipalities expected to see rain include Chiquinquirá, Caldas, Muzo, and Otanche.
Additionally, Tropical Wave number 51 is expected to impact the northern part of the country, bringing strong rainfall during afternoons and evenings. Authorities have advised coastal regions to prepare for potential strong winds and have warned the general public to remain vigilant regarding risks of flooding, landslides, and rising water levels.
