Colombian authorities investigate family compensation funds
Colombian oversight authorities are monitoring several family compensation funds (Cajas de Compensación Familiar) due to administrative irregularities and mismanagement of resources.
The Procuraduría General de la Nación has alerted the Ministry of Labor regarding critical situations at Comfenalco Antioquia, Comfaguajira, and Comfamiliar Atlántico. The agency is reviewing intervention processes, the lifting of administrative measures, and the transparency of leadership elections. In Comfenalco Antioquia, the Procuraduría has intervened in legal actions regarding the General Assembly of Affiliates, while in Comfaguajira, a judge ordered a new electoral schedule to ensure due process.
Separately, the Superintendencia de Subsidio Familiar is investigating Comfamiliar Huila and its director, Juan Carlos Carvajal. The investigation focuses on delays and inefficiencies in strategic projects, most notably the Ciudadela La Felicidad housing development in Neiva. This project has faced a 21-month suspension despite significant disbursements totaling approximately 28.3 billion pesos. Authorities are concerned about potential cost overruns and the risk to public funds derived from parafiscal contributions.
