Colombian coffee sector faces production decline and new digital retail launch

The Colombian coffee sector is facing a period of economic pressure following a recent boom. According to a report by Corficolombiana, coffee production reached a 33-year high of 14.87 million bags during the 2024-2025 coffee year, with harvest values rising 52% to $24.4 trillion. However, indicators show a recent downturn; through July, production has fallen by 12.5% and the estimated real value of the harvest has decreased by nearly 35%. Producers are also seeing lower incomes, earning approximately $700,000 less per commercial load compared to the previous period.

In response to evolving market trends, the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros (FNC) has partnered with Mercado Libre to launch an official ‘Café de Colombia’ digital store. This initiative aims to expand distribution channels for various coffee categories, including specialty, soluble, whole bean, and ground coffee. The move seeks to use e-commerce to increase the visibility of Colombian brands and connect producers more directly with consumers.
