Colombian court orders immediate care for endangered Orinoco crocodiles

The Superior Court of Villavicencio ruled that approximately 200 Orinoco crocodiles under a conservation program must receive continuous feeding, veterinary treatment, sanitary monitoring, permanent water access and all other conditions necessary for their health. The order applies while authorities determine final responsibility for the animals' long‑term care.

The decision also calls for coordination among the involved agencies, the convening of a technical panel to develop a lasting solution, and extends protection to crocodiles that have been relocated to other centers. Animal‑rights groups praised the ruling as a significant step toward safeguarding a critically endangered species in Colombia.
