Colombian female officers serve in ESMAD operational group

Three female patrol officers, Leidy Varón, Valentina González, and Nayibe Ortiz, are members of the ESMAD operational group within the Colombian National Police. Varón, 29, is a business administrator from La Dorada, Caldas; González, 24, is a police service professional and armored vehicle driver from Medellín; and Ortiz, 30, is a tourism technician from Tumaco, Nariño, currently studying occupational health and safety.

The officers have between six and nine years of experience in the National Police. They began their operational careers in Cali, where they participated in high-pressure situations including the 2021 social protests. For the past three years, they have been integrated into the ESMAD unit. They are currently based in Neiva.
