Colombian football clubs seek overhaul of TV rights revenue distribution
A coalition of eight professional clubs, known as the G8, presented a proposal to the Dimayor assembly to split the television rights revenue for the BetPlay league 50 % equally among all 36 clubs and the remaining 50 % based on each club’s sporting performance. The plan aims to provide a stable financial base while rewarding success on the field.
In an extraordinary assembly convened in Bogotá, the clubs – including Junior, Millonarios, Santa Fe, América, Cali, Nacional, Medellín and Once Caldas – agreed to review the current distribution model jointly with Dimayor after the evaluation of broadcast‑rights offers. The clubs also stated they would not transfer intangible or image rights under a new contract until the distribution discussion is resolved.
