Colombian forces thwart terrorist plot in La Gabarra, Norte de Santander

On July 28, 2026, the Colombian Army’s Battalion 9 of Task Force Vulcano, working with the National Police, captured a foreign national in La Gabarra, Tibú municipality, Norte de Santander. The suspect was found in possession of two improvised explosive devices, a 9 mm pistol with 16 cartridges and a mobile phone. All material was seized and handed to judicial authorities. Military intelligence indicated the homemade explosives were intended for a terrorist attack aimed at police forces operating in the urban area. The captured individual remains under legal process while the task force continues operations in the Catatumbo region to neutralize further threats.
