Colombian Liberal Party declares support for President De la Espriella

The Colombian Liberal Party has officially declared itself a party of government, announcing its support for President Abelardo de la Espriella. Following weeks of internal debate among directors, senators, and representatives, the party issued a statement recognizing the administration's efforts to respect institutions, maintain legal stability, and promote economic growth and security.

While the decision was presented as an institutional consensus, the party acknowledged existing internal discrepancies among some of its members regarding the current administration's actions.

The move has drawn attention to the political influence of former senator Julián Bedoya Pulgarín. Although Bedoya no longer holds a seat in Congress, his political structure in Antioquia remains significant. Key figures such as Senator María Eugenia Lopera and Representative Diver Franco, both of whom maintain political ties to Bedoya, have supported the decision to back the Executive. Lopera indicated that the Liberal Party would support initiatives deemed favorable while opposing those considered inconvenient.
