Colombian minister condemns congressman's video confrontation with Valle del Cauca governor

A political clash in Colombia's Valle del Cauca intensified after Congressman Alfredo Mondragón recorded a video confronting Governor Dilian Francisca Toro during a failed conciliatory hearing at the Supreme Court. The governor had lodged a complaint accusing Mondragón of libel and slander over allegations of irregular public‑fund use linked to regional infrastructure projects such as the commuter‑rail plan.

Education Minister Daniel Rojas publicly rebuked Mondragón on social media, describing the incident as "persecution" and urging higher political standards. He wrote, "Las y los dirigentes de izquierda debemos convencer por la fuerza de nuestras razones," criticizing the use of personal harassment to gain online attention. Rojas’ remarks highlight an emerging rift within the left‑leaning Pacto Histórico, pitting Mondragón’s combative stance against Rojas’s more moderate, institutional approach.
