Argentina and Colombia police make dozens of arrests in crime crackdown

Law‑enforcement agencies in Argentina and Colombia carried out a series of operations this week. In the southern Buenos Aires suburb of Ezeiza, federal prosecutors arrested a man suspected of attempting to kidnap four women and seizing a high‑end vehicle. Separate raids in Santiago and La Banda, Argentina, resulted in the seizure of two cars under active judicial warrants.

In Colombia, the army and police captured the alleged leader of the Clan del Golfo sub‑structure ‘Édgar Madrid Benjumea’ in Barrancabermeja, and three members of the burglary ring known as “Los Cerrajeros” operating in Putumayo and Nariño. Police also apprehended a suspect linked to the murder of political leader Wilmer Jair López in Orito, Putumayo. Additional actions included the arrest of a 22‑year‑old accused of robbing a bakery in Quitilipi, the dismantling of illegal gambling points in El Bolsón and General Roca, and a Bogotá GAULA operation that jailed 12 people involved in extortion schemes.

These coordinated efforts underscore a broader crackdown on organized crime and unlawful activities across both countries.
