Colombian police seize 581 kg marijuana in vehicle crash and 40 kg in parcel shipments
Police in Colombia intercepted a massive marijuana shipment after a high‑speed chase on the Mediacanoa–La Virginia road in Valle del Cauca. The driver of a Nissan Versa ignored a stop sign, fled, and lost control of the vehicle, which overturned at kilometre 72. Officers found 581 kg of marijuana wrapped in black vinyl, valued at over $457 million, allegedly originating from Corinto, Cauca, and destined for Medellín. The driver was arrested and the vehicle seized.
In a separate operation, the National Police seized about 40 kg of marijuana concealed in two courier packages sent from Cali and Armenia to destinations in Valledupar, Cesar. The parcels were flagged during routine inspections of transport companies and were confiscated before distribution. The seized drugs were handed over to the appropriate authorities while investigations continue to identify the senders and intended recipients.
