Colombian President‑Elect Abelardo de la Espriña Announces Fiscal Reform and US‑led Security Pact
President‑elect Abelardo de la Espriña said Colombia will join the United States‑led “Escudo de las Américas” security strategy starting 7 August. He also outlined a fiscal plan promoted by the ANIF that calls for a 27‑trillion‑peso cut in state spending and a 12‑trillion‑peso tax reform, including lower income‑tax thresholds, removal of several tax benefits and a gradual reduction of the personal income‑tax filing floor. The proposal would also raise the price of ACPM and eliminate low‑execution programs. Following the announcements, Colombia’s main stock index (COLCAP) fell 4.4%, sovereign bonds slipped, and Ecopetrol shares dropped 8.5%. De la Espriña reaffirmed a hard stance on irregular migrants, indicating they will be expelled, and reiterated support for a reform of the JEP and other ministries with familiar political figures.
