Colombian Prosecutor Seizes 42 Assets Linked to Herrera Clan
The Colombian Prosecutor General's Office has imposed precautionary measures on 42 assets valued at more than 44.9 billion pesos linked to the Herrera drug trafficking clan. The seizure includes real estate, commercial establishments, and a corporation located in cities such as Bogotá, Cali, Jamundí, Tuluá, and Sonsón.
The actions follow an offer from Ramiro Herrera Buitrago, a former member of the Herrera clan and brother of the late Pacho Herrera, to collaborate with authorities. Herrera Buitrago sent a letter to President Abelardo De La Espriella proposing that recovered assets be used for social purposes, specifically for reconstruction efforts following the earthquake on August 10.
Investigators allege that the criminal organization used a network of strawmen and various sectors—including real estate, construction, finance, and hospitality—to hide and manage assets to give them the appearance of legality. The seizure operations were conducted by the CTI with support from the National Army.
