Colombian asset seizure against Herrera clan
Overview
The Colombian Attorney General's Office has seized 42 assets linked to the ‘Clan Herrera’, an organization allegedly serving as a front for former Cali Cartel member Hélmer Francisco Herrera Buitrago. The seized assets, valued at over 44.9 billion Colombian pesos, include real estate, commercial premises, hotels, and a 1,083-hectare hacienda named La Porcelana. These properties are located across Bogotá, Cali, Jamundí, Tuluá, and Sonsón.
Investigations indicate the criminal group utilized a network of strawmen and various economic sectors—such as construction, finance, aviation, and gambling—to conceal these assets and provide them with an appearance of legality. The seizure operations were conducted by the Technical Investigation Body (CTI) with support from the National Army.
Subsequent reports indicate the legal actions followed a proposal from Ramiro Herrera Buitrago, a former member of the clan and brother of the late Pacho Herrera. In a letter to President Abelardo De La Espriella, Herrera Buitrago offered to collaborate with authorities and proposed that the recovered assets be utilized for social reconstruction efforts following an earthquake on August 10.
