Colombian towns Jerusalem, Guataquí and Nariño launch solar‑powered water supply system

The municipalities of Jerusalem, Guataquí and Nariño in Cundinamarca have inaugurated the first community energy project to power their water‑supply system with solar electricity. Led by Empresas Públicas de Cundinamarca (EPC), solar panels now provide power to the regional water company Jenaguas, slashing operating costs and reducing reliance on conventional energy sources.

The initiative is expected to lower greenhouse‑gas emissions and free up savings for the maintenance and expansion of the water‑distribution infrastructure that serves the three towns. Jorge Machuca, manager of Jenaguas, said, "Hoy entregamos la primera comunidad energética sostenible con paneles solares a la empresa regional de acueducto Jenaguas. Este proyecto hace que la empresa sea más sostenible desde el punto de vista ambiental y económico, al reducir los costos de energía y mejorar la eficiencia en la prestación del servicio de agua potable para los habitantes de Jerusalén, Guataquí y Nariño."
