Colombia's 2026 election results validated by registrar and audit
National Registrar Hernán Penagos rejected President Gustavo Petro’s claims of digital fraud in the June 21, 2026 presidential runoff, stating there is no technical or legal basis for the accusations and urging an independent statistical review. Penagos emphasized that vote counting is public, witnessed by over 260,000 electoral observers, and affirmed, “No hay duda alguna de los resultados.”
An international audit conducted by the Inter‑American Institute of Human Rights (IIDH) examined ten components of the electoral process, including voting kits, biometric systems, and result consolidation. The final report found all technological and procedural elements functioned correctly and concluded, “No se identificaron hallazgos ni observaciones que permitieran concluir la existencia de incumplimientos.” Both the registrar’s statement and the IIDH audit reinforce the legitimacy of the election that declared Abelardo de la Espriella the president.
