Colombia's Council of State rejects demand to nullify President-elect De La Espriella's election
Colombia’s Council of State, the highest administrative court, inadmitted the petition seeking to nullify the election of Abelardo De La Espriella as president for the 2026‑2030 term. The demand, filed by former magistrate Luis Guillermo Pérez, alleged irregularities including alleged intimidation of voters, misuse of national symbols and De La Espriella’s alleged double citizenship. The court ruled that the filing failed to meet procedural requirements, citing missing documents, insufficiently detailed claims and other formal defects. It did not assess the substantive merits of the allegations, but ordered the petitioner to correct the deficiencies within a short period if he wishes to refile. The decision leaves the election result intact and allows the presidential transition to proceed amid a polarized political climate following the June 21, 2026 vote.
