Colombia's Cundinamarca Region Boosts Environmental Protection and Wildlife Release
The Instituto Distrital de Recreación y Deporte (IDRD) immediately implemented a preventive measure issued by the Corporación Autónoma Regional de Cundinamarca (CAR) to suspend unauthorized construction, occupation and physical interventions in a sector of the Parque Nacional linked to the Monserrate trail. The action aims to safeguard the Eastern Forest Reserve of Bogotá and prevent damage to its ecosystem while technical inspections identified 33 unauthorized occupations for further investigation.
In parallel, CAR and the Secretaría Distrital de Ambiente de Bogotá (SDA) released 19 rescued wildlife—including opossums, cusumbos, and yellow‑green carrikí birds—back into their natural habitats in the municipalities of Cogua and Tena. The animals had undergone medical assessment, rehabilitation and behavioral conditioning before being returned, highlighting coordinated efforts to protect and restore local biodiversity.
