In late July 2026, the regional environmental authority in Huila reported releasing more than 600 rehabilitated wild animals—including birds, mammals and reptiles—after treating over a thousand specimens and conducting anti‑trafficking operations. The effort was highlighted as part of National Wildlife Day and underscored community involvement in rescuing injured wildlife.

A few days later, officials in the Cundinamarca region announced the suspension of unauthorized construction in a sector of the Parque Nacional near the Monserrate trail to protect the Eastern Forest Reserve. Simultaneously, the region released 19 rescued animals, such as opossums and native birds, after medical and behavioral rehabilitation. The two reports illustrate a coordinated, nationwide push in Colombia to protect habitats, curb illegal wildlife trade, and restore biodiversity through rehabilitation and release programs.
