Colombia military leadership overhauled by President De la Espriella

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella has announced a major reorganization of the nation's military leadership to combat organized crime and narcoterrorism. The restructuring includes the appointment of several high-ranking officers and a significant shift in institutional naming.

Major General Erick Rodríguez Aparicio, who had previously been removed from service during the administration of Gustavo Petro, has been appointed as the General Commander of the Military Forces. He will be supported by Major General Carlos Carrasquilla Gómez as Chief of the Joint Staff. The National Army will be led by Major General José Bertulfo Soto Sánchez, with Brigadier General Rodolfo Morales Franco serving as second commander. The National Navy will be commanded by Vice Admiral Javier Jaime Pinilla, and the Colombian Air Force—which will revert from its recent name, the Colombian Aerospace Force, to its original designation—will be led by Major General Juan Martínez Ossa.

This reorganization is expected to replace approximately 25 generals and admirals from the previous government. The administration's stated goal is to restore territorial control and strengthen the presence of public forces in both rural and urban areas to ensure national security and sovereignty.
