Colombia's Defense Minister Deploys Over 11,000 Personnel for August 7 Presidential Inauguration
Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez Suárez visited Cali with senior military and police leaders to inspect the security arrangements for the presidential inauguration scheduled for August 7. He oversaw the deployment of more than 11,000 soldiers and police officers, equipped with drones, anti‑drone systems, and armored vehicles, across strategic points in the city and at Palmira International Airport. Checkpoints were installed on main access routes, and a special security device was set up at the airport to protect arriving heads of state and diplomatic delegations. Sánchez announced a reward of up to 500 million Colombian pesos for information that could prevent any attack or public‑order disturbance, urging citizens to cooperate with authorities.
