Colombia's DIMAR celebrates 74 years of maritime management

Colombia’s General Maritime Directorate (DIMAR) is celebrating 74 years of operation. As an entity under the Ministry of National Defense, DIMAR manages maritime, fluvial, and coastal activities through 18 port captaincies across the Caribbean, Pacific, and international river borders.

Recent achievements include the adjudication of the first temporary occupation permit for the ‘Caribe Central’ offshore wind energy round and the granting of 19 maritime concessions for industrial, port, and tourism projects. Additionally, the agency secured a concession for the construction of the Gran Malecón del Mar in Cartagena.

In terms of scientific and technological advancement, DIMAR launched the Phase 2 Maritime Transit Information System (SITMAR 5.0) and the Oceanographic and Climatic Information Visualization platform (VIOC) to forecast El Niño and La Niña phenomena. The agency also conducted the ‘Misión Océano: Capítulo Pacífico 2026,’ a 100-day oceanographic and meteorological research mission aboard the ARC ‘Simón Bolívar’.
