Colombia's Health Minister Jaramillo Presents Transparency Report on Health Funding

Colombia's Ministry of Health and Social Protection launched the "Empalme Ante El Pueblo" exercise, a public accounting session led by Minister Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo. The initiative displayed the ministry's financial performance over the past four years, emphasizing increased investment in the health sector. Jaramillo highlighted that the Unit of Payment by Capitation (UPC) grew 17.25% under the current administration, far surpassing the 9.84% increase recorded in the previous term, and noted that growth in the subsidized regime was four times higher. The report aimed to contrast current figures with those of the previous government, showcasing a larger budgetary cushion and increased spending on vulnerable populations.

The minister framed the presentation as a political exercise to strengthen institutional trust and demonstrate that the health system's financing has been insulated from inflationary pressures. By publishing detailed financial data, the ministry sought to counter criticism of past administrations and position the current government's health spending as a concrete achievement for Colombian citizens.
