Colombia's incoming foreign and transport ministers criticized over climate and toll policies

Outgoing President Gustavo Petro and the human‑rights NGO Temblores have attacked the nomination of Omar Bula Escobar as Colombia’s next foreign minister, accusing him of denying climate science and disparaging human‑rights organisations. Petro wrote on X, “Negar la ciencia siempre lleva a la barbarie y el holocausto,” and warned that the new administration would abandon the country’s climate leadership.

A separate dispute has emerged over the appointment of Elsa Noguera as future transport minister. Noguera said toll reductions must be backed by technical, financial and legal safeguards to avoid undermining road‑maintenance funding. Petro criticised her comments, arguing that cuts could jeopardise infrastructure revenue and lead to costly lawsuits. The debate highlights differing views on how the incoming government will handle climate policy and infrastructure financing.
