Colombia's Pacto Histórico Plans Shadow Cabinet to Monitor New Government

The left‑wing coalition Pacto Histórico announced it will create an alternative or "shadow" cabinet to provide continuous political oversight of the incoming administration of President‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella. The proposal, inspired by parliamentary practices such as the United Kingdom’s shadow cabinet, would assign opposition members and experts to each ministry to monitor decisions, produce periodic reports, propose alternative policies, flag potential irregularities and maintain links with social organisations.

The initiative emerges amid a re‑organisation of Colombian politics following the presidential election and heightened tensions between the left‑wing movement and the right‑leaning government, especially over the implementation of the peace accord, social policies and the state's structure.
