Colombia's Presidency Issues Guidelines to Centralize Transition Information

The Colombian government, through the Casa de Nariño, released new directives for the upcoming presidential transition (empalme). All reports and responses prepared by ministries, administrative departments and other state entities must be reviewed and consolidated by the Presidency before being handed to the incoming administration.

The measures are laid out in Presidential Directive 06 of 2026 and create a Transition Committee with sub‑committees tasked with compiling detailed information on finances, contracts, strategic projects, administrative status and pending risks. Coordination will be led by the Department of the Presidency (DAPRE) together with the National Planning Department (DNP) and the Ministry of Finance. The goal is to ensure a uniform, complete and transparent data package, avoid inconsistencies, and support continuity of public services after the presidential handover. The process unfolds amid a politically sensitive environment following recent elections, with officials emphasizing technical rather than partisan handling of the handover.
