Colombia's President‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella unveils “Vía Milagro” redesign of Ciénaga‑Barranquilla highway

President‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella announced that the Ciénaga–Barranquilla road will be replanned as the “Vía Milagro”. The redesign aims to restore the water connection between the Ciénaga, the Magdalena River and the Caribbean Sea, improve mobility, and combine engineering, ecological restoration and social development.

Environment Minister Fabio Arjona and Transport Minister Elsa Noguera have been appointed to lead the technical structuring. Noguera said the new dual carriageway will protect the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta, support artisanal fishing and tourism, and bring prosperity to surrounding communities. Ongoing works on a 3.2‑km segment will not be delayed, and the project includes agreements with the palafitic communities of Buenavista and Nueva Venecia.

The “Vía Milagro” is budgeted at 2.7 trillion Colombian pesos and is slated for completion in 2032.
