Colombia's Vice President‑Elect José Manuel Restrepo Heads Anti‑Corruption Transition Team
Vice President‑elect José Manuel Restrepo confirmed he will lead the new administration's anti‑corruption transition committee, a role assigned by President‑elect Abelardo De La Espriella. The committee will operate nationwide, involving regional representatives, specialized audits and expert support to scrutinize the outgoing government's actions.
Among its first tasks, the team has been directed to examine alleged contacts between the former Petro administration and the Clan del Golfo, with relevant documents to be forwarded to the U.S. Department of Justice. It will also assess the conduct of former peace commissioner Danilo Rueda for possible legal action. Restrepo has asked the National Protection Unit to refrain from making new appointments during the transition, emphasizing the need for careful institutional decisions before the planned inauguration on 7 August.
