South American transport hubs undergo major infrastructure upgrades
Major transportation infrastructure developments are underway across South America. Aeropuertos Argentina has announced a US$1.5 billion investment plan for the period between 2027 and 2031. This plan includes US$760 million for Ezeiza International Airport, featuring a new 35,000-square-meter international arrivals terminal with biometric controls, and US$200 million for Aeroparque to build a new domestic boarding pier. Additionally, US$500 million is earmarked for improvements across 33 regional airports, including Bariloche.
In Uruguay, the Administración Nacional de Puertos (ANP) is completing a US$31 million remodeling of the Colonia del Sacramento port terminal. The project, expected to finish in November, adds 1,000 square meters to the pre-boarding area and introduces new migration posts and mechanical escalators to handle increased summer season traffic.
In Chile, the new passenger terminal at Balmaceda aerodrome has officially begun operations. The 12,391-square-meter facility is designed to accommodate over one million passengers annually, significantly improving connectivity for the Aysén region.
