South American transport infrastructure developments

Overview

South American nations are implementing various infrastructure and transport modernization projects. In Argentina, major aviation investments are planned through 2031, including US$760 million for a new international arrivals terminal at Ezeiza International Airport and US$200 million for Aeroparque. Regional airport improvements and the strategic recovery of railway services to create multimodal cargo and passenger systems in the Buenos Aires Province are also being prioritized.

In Chile, developments include the commencement of operations at the new Balmaceda aerodrome passenger terminal and the launch of a new public transport service in Puerto Natales using Euro 6 diesel buses. Authorities in Punta Arenas have also announced plans to transition to a 100% electric bus system by late 2028.

In Uruguay, the remodeling of the Colonia del Sacramento port terminal is nearing completion, adding capacity and new migration posts to manage seasonal traffic.
