Colorado counties launch new evacuation alerts and extend fire restrictions amid wildfire risk

Clear Creek and Jefferson counties in Colorado have introduced a standardized evacuation system to improve public warnings during wildfire threats. The new protocol replaces older terms with "Evacuation Warning" and "Evacuation Order," and uses a distinctive Hi‑Lo siren that emits an alternating high‑low tone paired with a recorded message when an order is issued. Public information officer Jenny Fulton explained the warning signals residents to prepare for immediate departure, while an order indicates an imminent danger to life.

In Larimer County, officials have extended Stage 1 fire restrictions through September 8 due to prolonged dry conditions, elevated fire danger and forecasted warm weather. The restrictions limit activities that could ignite fires, reflecting a broader shift in how Northern Colorado residents plan summer outings and manage wildfire preparedness.
