Colorado GOP Governor Primary: Kirkmeyer and Marx in Tight Race

The Republican primary for Colorado governor remains undecided as ballot counting continues. Early results showed state Senator Barb Kirkmeyer with a narrow lead of less than 1,400 votes, but subsequent counts gave Marine veteran and nonprofit leader Victor Marx a slim advantage. As of the latest count, Marx holds about 39.86% of the vote to Kirkmeyer’s 39.43%, with state Rep. Scott Bottoms trailing at roughly 20%. The margin between the two leading candidates is around 1%, just above Colorado’s 0.5% automatic‑recount threshold, though a recount could still be triggered if the final gap narrows.

Both candidates have urged voters to cure any ballot issues by the July 8 deadline. Kirkmeyer, a longtime legislator and former Weld County commissioner, frames her campaign on experience and fiscal conservatism. Marx, a Marine Corps veteran who runs All Things Possible Ministries, positions himself as an anti‑establishment outsider. The GOP nominee will face Democrat Phil Weiser, the state attorney general, in the November general election, a contest in a state that has not elected a Republican governor since 2002.
