Camilo Pérez clinches ANR primary in Asunción as Colorado Party sweeps Paraguay internal elections

Camilo Pérez secured a decisive victory in the ANR (Honor Colorado) internal elections in Asunción, receiving over 60% of the vote. Party leaders Horacio Cartes, President of the Senate, and President Santiago Peña celebrated the win, with Cartes shouting, “Si Dios permite, Camilo va a ser el próximo intendente de Asunción.” Deputy Raúl Latorre highlighted the result, stating “Camilo conquistó a la gente” and noting that the outcome exceeded expectations.

The primaries across Paraguay showed the party’s broad dominance. Rigoberto Chamorro defeated the Zacarías clan‑backed candidate in Ciudad del Este, signaling a shift within the party’s eastern power base. In Encarnación, Luis “Cheba” Remesowski won with 76.08% of the vote, confirming strong support in the south. Additional departmental victories were reported in Concepción, San Pedro, Caacupé, Villarrica, Caaguazú, and other locales, positioning the Colorado Party’s candidates for the municipal elections slated for October.

These results underscore the party’s internal consolidation ahead of the upcoming local elections, with Camilo Pérez poised to lead the List 1 ticket for the Asunción mayoral race.
