Colorado stargazers to see frequent meteor showers in October
Stargazers in Colorado can expect frequent meteor activity throughout October, with seven major and minor meteor showers peaking during the month. According to stargazing guide Mark Laurin, these events may overlap, creating a “marathon-o-meteor-showers” effect.
Many of these showers will peak during the new moon phase, providing darker skies for better visibility. The showers radiate from both the northern and southern parts of the celestial dome, offering varied viewing opportunities.
A notable event is the Orionids Meteor Shower, which is expected to peak on October 21-22. This shower, caused by debris from Halley’s Comet, is predicted to offer approximately 13 meteors per hour. For optimal viewing, observers are advised to find dark locations away from city lights and look toward the sky after midnight.
