Colorado-Utah border wildfires kill three firefighters

Three firefighters were killed and two others injured when fast‑moving wildfires engulfed them near the Colorado‑Utah border on 27 June. The fires, named Knowles, Gore and Snyder after merging, have burned about 114 square kilometres (44 square miles) under extreme heat of 34 °C and winds up to 71 km/h.

Emergency shelters were opened in Mesa County, Colorado, and the U.S. Forest Service closed public access to nearby lands to protect residents and responders. Officials from the U.S. Wildland Fire Service expressed condolences and pledged support to the families of the fallen crew members.
