Colorado's Aspen Acres Wildfire Forces Evacuations Across Pueblo County

The Aspen Acres wildfire in southern Colorado has burned roughly 23,000 acres and remains at 0% containment. Fueled by 100‑mph winds, the fire has halted air‑support operations and prompted mandatory evacuations for the towns of Beulah, Rye, San Isabel and surrounding areas, affecting about 2,732 households and an estimated 4,200 residents. Highway 165, sections of Interstate 25 and Colorado 78 have been closed, and multiple shelters— including a general‑population center at 1650 Cooper Place in Pueblo and a livestock facility at the Colorado State Fairgrounds— have been opened.

A second blaze near Isabel Lake is also spreading, raising concerns for nearby communities. State and local authorities have issued an air‑quality health advisory as smoke drifts across the region, posing risks especially to children, seniors and people with respiratory conditions. FEMA is providing funds to cover up to 75% of eligible firefighting costs, and fire agencies from several jurisdictions are coordinating response efforts.

Pueblo County Sheriff David J. Lucero announced Stage 2 fire restrictions, banning fireworks, open flames and smoking in the affected area. Residents are urged to stay indoors, protect livestock, and follow evacuation orders as resources continue to be mobilized.
