AFP Popular integrates AFP Romana to strengthen Dominican pension system
AFP Popular and AFP Romana announced a corporate integration approved by the Dominican Superintendence of Pensions (SIPEN). The merger will expand market coverage, capture operational efficiencies and improve service quality for the 1.6 million affiliates that together hold more than RD $428.45 billion in pension assets. The integration is being carried out under the current regulatory framework and will not affect the ownership or value of individual accounts, which remain protected by law and SIPEN oversight. AFP Popular’s executive vice‑president Luis José Jiménez said the move “consolidates capabilities, strengthens governance and raises our service standards” and emphasized a communication plan to ensure a smooth transition for all members. The combined entity will continue to operate with ISO 9001‑certified management and aims to deliver faster, more transparent and consistent pension services across the Dominican Republic.
