Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson charged with marijuana possession

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been issued a court summons for possession of marijuana following a traffic stop in Carmel on October 12. A police officer initiated the stop after observing a vehicle with expired license plates. Upon approaching the car, the officer reported detecting the odor of marijuana.

Richardson reportedly told the officer he had smoked marijuana inside the vehicle because he did not want to smoke around his children. Officers located a small mason jar in the glove compartment and an opened bag of THC-infused gummies. No other contraband was found, and no arrest was made at the scene.

Regarding the incident, Richardson stated, “I know my character, God knows my character, my family knows me. So I don’t need to explain anything else.”

Legal experts noted that because the officer did not believe Richardson was operating the vehicle while intoxicated, a court summons was issued rather than a physical arrest. Depending on his criminal history, the court may pursue pretrial diversion.
