Columbus Blue Jackets sign Adam Fantilli to $82.5M extension

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed restricted free-agent forward Adam Fantilli to a six-year contract extension worth $82.5 million. The deal, which runs through the 2031-32 season, carries an average annual value of $13.75 million, marking the largest contract in the franchise's history.

Fantilli, 21, was selected third overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. In his first two professional seasons, he has played all 164 games, recording 140 points consisting of 67 goals and 73 assists. General manager Don Waddell described the player as a vital part of the organization's future, citing his speed, size, and skill.

The extension follows a brief period where Fantilli was absent from training camp during contract negotiations. The Blue Jackets are scheduled to begin their regular season next Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres.
