Comando Vermelho leaders arrested in Brazil and Paraguay
Brazilian police captured a 37‑year‑old leader of the Comando Vermelho gang from the Venda Nova area of Belo Horizonte after a joint operation by Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro authorities. The suspect was found hiding in Cabo Frio and taken into custody without incident.
Paraguayan police also seized a 40‑year‑old high‑level member, Paulo Cândido De Oliveira Da Silva, in Luque. He was identified as a key link for the gang’s drug and weapons trafficking network extending to several Brazilian cities. The operation was conducted by the Departamento Antinarcóticos and resulted in his detention pending prosecution. Both arrests highlight coordinated inter‑state and cross‑border efforts against the transnational criminal organization.
