Comedian Great Gidayu dies at 67

Comedian and musician Great Gidayu, a member of the Takeshi Gundan entertainment group, passed away on September 7, 2026, at the age of 67. He was discovered on the stairs of his Tokyo apartment. While the official cause of death is still under police investigation, colleagues have shared memories of his multi-talented career as a comedian, singer, and guitarist.

Colleagues, including Hayashiya Pee and Nabeyakan, remembered him as a kind and sincere individual. Gidayu had been battling health issues for many years, having developed diabetes in 1995. Since 2007, he underwent dialysis three times a week due to diabetic nephropathy.

In previous interviews, Gidayu had expressed regret over not taking his condition seriously in his younger years, warning others to monitor their health metrics rather than relying on self-diagnosis. His recent weight had significantly decreased due to his health struggles, dropping to approximately 56kg.
